What are philosophers doing? Is that Philosophy,indeed?
Possible approach: Let us suppose that the REAL PHILOSOPHICAL PROBLEMS have no history,correspondingly, some unsolved problems of science are philosophical. Hence, philosophers are studying real philosophical problems,associated with "the limits of Reason".
However,L.Wittgenstein in his attempt of simplification of philosophy [Tractatus]had found that there are no such things as "real philosophical problems".
Indeed, some philosophical questions are Witttgenstein's fictions. Just some philosophical questions are real. They can exist in "reality" in the form of unsolved mathematical, physical, biological and psychological problems. Hence,thus,main problem of philosophical thinking is to find Simple and Clear Experiment in new taste to identify real philosophical problem. Hence,correspondingly,an idea of Experimental Philosophy as Experimental Transcendentalism (X-tra), but not popular experimental psychology of philosophy(X-phi) is deduced .

As is known( at last, at Oxbridge), Sir Karl Popper had very poor philosophical taste...

Are you really thinking that you answered the question asked? :-)
a.Popper in his aggressive middle-class manner claimed that refined Plato is " the Enimy of Western Civilazation" as well as the first Communist Philosopher,etc,etc,etc. It is complete nonsense and bad taste.
b.In accordance with Wittgenstein's grotesque, there are no such things as "the real philosophical problems".In other words,all questions of "orthodox" philosophy are Wittgenstein's fictions. I believe that some philosophical problems are real, but not Wittgenstein's games. However, to identify real philosophical problem is to introduce ideas of Proof and Philosophical Experiment in philosophy (may be as kind of "X-phi"). Philosophy is not History of Physics in Popperian manner.
c.Some Derrida's experiments with free associations in "Of Grammatology" are quite sexy.

Have you read the "Open Society..."?
Popper just justified that the political philosophy of Plato is a totalitarian one... So, Plato, living now, would be among the enemies of the Open Society, which is an objective of the human developement according Popper...
So, in your statement there are 2 shortcomings:
1. You mentioned "agressive manner" of Popper, which in reality is standard academic one.
2. You pointed to "Western Civilization", which was not a subject of Plato, nor Popper. BTW, when Popper wrote his book the Western choice was not yet done - Hitler was still in power...

That's clear: Wittgenstein worked in framework of positivism. Which is quite narrow...
There is choice for you: You can chose a positivism - and get no other philosophy, than Wittgenstein's one... Or you can recognize an existance of an other type of Knowledge, than just positivistic scientific one... I.e. to recognize an existance of statements, which are Wittgenstein's fictions from one side, but very useful for people solving some their problems from other side. And on this way you would come to the Philosophy...

Re: Some very rare unsolved problems of special sciences are
philosophical,because they could be associated with the cognitive "limits of Reason". However, some unsolved problems of science are scientific, but not philosophical.Hence,there is no simplification(reduction) in american taste at all in my logic. Taking Philosophy seriously is very refined and complex transcendental adventure of human spirit. Probably, some REAL philosophical problems are unsolved for human mind of any historical period.Unfortunately.This is philosophy - the most difficult,free and noble activity of man.
